Your Sanctuary by the Water
450north is our offering to you: a single, beautifully designed architectural pavilion called Kūkupa, crafted to provide complete privacy, comfort, and immersion in the natural world. Every detail is about helping you unwind, explore, and reconnect with simplicity and beauty. The views are breathtaking, and often you will hear nothing more than the birdsong, and the lap of the harbour tides. Your hosts live in another pavilion further up the property, giving you space and total privacy.
Your Hosts
We’re your hosts, Kiri and Steve Nield. We moved to Hokianga 25 years ago, where we spent the first 10 years in Rawene with our 3 children, before moving to Opara to build 450north, where we’ve lived for the last 15 years. We love living here so much we wanted to share this paradise with others.
450north is a reflection of what we value most—family, quiet, comfort, nature, and thoughtful hospitality. We’ve created this space so you can experience the best of the Hokianga at your own pace. Whether you're here for a romantic getaway, an adventure, or simply to rest and be still, we look forward to welcoming you.
Hokianga – Where the Journey Begins
Nestled on the west coast of Northland, Hokianga is a place of natural wonder, deep Māori heritage, and raw, untamed beauty.
From serene harbours and golden sand dunes to native forests echoing with birdsong, it’s a region where time slows down—and connection to place is everything.
Opara – A Quiet Corner of Paradise
Tucked away on the southern arm of the Hokianga Harbour, Opara is small, remote, and utterly special.
With its still waters, native bush, and sense of deep calm, it's a hidden gem where you’ll feel both far away from everything and deeply at home.
450north at Opara is a rural retreat in the wilderness of raw natural bush and native flora and fauna. We are only 9 kms off SH12, on an unsealed road. Yet when you come into the gated estate you are far removed from traffic and the noise of the world.
Food baskets
Enjoy a complimentary continental breakfast basket, in room on your arrival. Additional food baskets are available for order, including a Cooked Breakfast Box, with Snack, Platter and Burger baskets provided for self catering in Kupuka. Please place your order when booking, or contact us prior to your stay to arrange.
